Which apostille do you need?

It comes down to one thing: who issued your document. Pick the path that matches yours — and if you're unsure, call and we'll sort it in a minute.

Federal document

Federal apostille

For documents issued by the U.S. government — authenticated by the U.S. Department of State.

  • FBI background check (Identity History Summary)
  • Naturalization & citizenship certificates
  • DD-214 military records
  • IRS & federal court documents

$350 first document · 7–10 business days processing · 2-day shipping included — the fastest in the nation.

State document

State apostille

For documents issued by a U.S. state — authenticated by the state that issued them.

  • Birth, marriage, death & divorce certificates
  • Notarized documents (POA, affidavits)
  • Diplomas & transcripts
  • Business & corporate records

From $250 for Oregon & Washington (in-house) · all 50 states covered.

The easiest way to tell them apart: if the document came from a federal agency (FBI, IRS, USCIS), it's a federal apostille. If it came from a state (a county or state vital records office), it's a state apostille. Still unsure? Call us — we'll identify it in a minute.

The basics

What an apostille actually does

An apostille is an internationally recognized certificate that verifies your document is genuine, so a foreign government will accept it without an embassy visit. It's required across the 120+ countries in the Hague Apostille Convention — for visas, dual citizenship, overseas work and study, marriage abroad, adoption, and more.

Get it wrong — wrong authority, missing notarization, an out-of-date certified copy — and it comes back rejected, costing you weeks. That's the part we take off your plate: we know exactly where each document goes and what it needs before it's submitted.

Common reasons people need one
  • Studying or working abroad
  • Immigration, visas & residency
  • Dual citizenship
  • Marriage or adoption in another country
  • International business & contracts
  • Estate & inheritance matters overseas

Many countries also require a certified translation. We handle that too — get the apostille first, then translate the full packet.

Questions

Apostille FAQ

An apostille is an official certificate that authenticates a public document so it's accepted in another country belonging to the Hague Apostille Convention (120+ countries). Without it, foreign governments, universities, and employers won't recognize your document. We handle both federal and state apostilles.
It depends on who issued the document. Federal documents — like an FBI background check, naturalization certificate, or IRS record — are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State (a federal apostille). State documents — like a birth, marriage, death, or divorce certificate — are authenticated by the state that issued them (a state apostille). Not sure? Call us and we'll tell you in a minute.
Federal apostille is a flat $350 for the first document and $200 for each additional, 2-day shipping included. State apostille for Oregon and Washington starts at $250, with faster tiers available; other states vary. Additional fees may apply and will be discussed when you order.
Yes. We're based in Beaverton and serve the entire Portland Metro area and Clark County, WA — including Portland, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Lake Oswego. Federal apostille is available nationwide by mail.
Some do — powers of attorney, affidavits, and single-status letters must be notarized before they can be apostilled. Vital records (birth, marriage, death, divorce) do not. Our sister company, The Notaryous LLC, handles notarization, so we can notarize and apostille in one coordinated process.
Federal apostille is 7–10 business days processing with 2-day shipping included — the fastest in the nation. State apostille for Oregon and Washington ranges from 1–2 business days (White-Glove) to about 10 (Standard); other states vary. We'll confirm your timeline up front.
